Happiness. One word that everyone wants, strives to have.
Are you happy? If not, what would make you happy?
The question you should really ask yourself is “What are you doing to hold you back from happiness?”
So, now are probably thinking that you are doing everything you can to be happy. Let me share two quotes that should shatter that way of thinking:
People let their own hang-ups become the obstacles between them and personal happiness.
The happiness of most people is not ruined by great catastrophes or fatal errors, but by the repetition of slowly destructive little things.
After reading and thinking about those quotes, are you really doing everything you can do to be happy? Or are there some things that are holding you back from the very happiness you desire?
Review your life, how you spend time and see if what you doing is going to lead to happiness. In my conversations with people, I find that we all do things that will mask our pain, yet lead away from true happiness. Some of the things I hear (and have done myself) are below.
Addictions. We have our addictions to mask our pain temporarily, yet they will ultimately lead to unhappiness. Whether the addiction is alcohol, drugs, pornography or lesser addictions like the internet, need for others approvals, or just wasting time they all stop happiness.
- Our beliefs. Yes, our very beliefs can prevent us from being happy. We may believe that we don’t deserve to be truly happy. We may believe that we aren’t worthy. We may even believe that happiness will come when the situation is perfect. All of these beliefs are wrong and will prevent true lasting happiness. See my post on unlearning your self limiting beliefs.
- Overlooking the little things we do daily. We all do little things daily that can prevent our happiness. Time killers not only waste time but prevent you from doing things that will eventually lead to happiness.
- Not practicing an attitude of gratitude. Be grateful for what you do have. Chances are that there are people that would love to be in your situation. Happy people are happy no matter their circumstances.
Are you ready to be happy?
