What are your life’s priorities? If you don’t know what they are, I have an exercise that you can use to figure them out. You may to take some quiet time to do this exercise because you will want to be able to think about your answers.
First, make a list of everything in your life that is important to you. These can include your job, your spouse, your children, siblings, me-time, fun, your walk with God, hobbies, or anything that you have in your life. This list is unique to you and could have 5 items or 20 items on it. As long as it is important to you, list it.
After you have your list complete, prioritize it. Place a number beside the item starting with 1 as the highest priority and go through your list. The lower the number, the higher priority it is to you. As you work through this, you may be surprised as to what is really a priority to you.
Now that your list is prioritized, the work begins. Take a separate piece of paper for each item. Put the priority on the top line. Next make three columns on the paper. In the first column, put the question “What I am doing to make this a priority?” In the second column put the question “What do I need to do to make this a priority?” In the final column, put “What do I need to quit doing if this a priority?” Try to come up with at least three items in each column.
You have now identified your life priorities and how to make them true priorities in your life. Did any of your priorities surprise you? What did you find out about yourself? Are willing to make the changes necessary to reflect these priorities in your life?
