One of my favorite quotes is “If you can become the leader you ought to become on the inside, you will be able to become the person you want on the outside. People will want to follow you. And when that happens, you’ll be able to tackle anything in this world.” John Maxwell states this in his book, The 21 Indispensable Qualities of a Leader – Becoming the Person Others Will Want to Follow. To me, that means that change starts from inside ourselves. For us to change, we have to first examine our life. Next, we have clear picture of what is important to us. Finally, we have to align our lives to that vision.
First, we have to examine our lives. This examination can be a hard process. To better ourselves, we must first recognize what needs to change. As a Christian, our self examination should start with do portray Christian values in our lives. If we don’t, that is the first thing we have to work on. Start by re-dedicating our lives to God. Accept His forgiveness and grace. Understand His will for our lives.
After we examine our lives, we will have clear picture of what our life is. We will also have a clear picture of what needs to change. Focus on things that allow your life to be in His will. These are things that really matter. Our treasures are not necessarily here on earth. The true treasures are in Heaven. Earthly treasures can be taken away, but the true treasures are secure for us in Heaven.
Align all things in our lives to the vision of a Godly life. By following God’s will in all areas of our life, we are able to handle all things. We are able to meet our troubles head on knowing that we have the victory already in Christ. This should give us peace in our lives.
By doing this, we will be the person that others want to follow and be around. Examine your life, get a clear picture of what your life should be and what is important to you and align your life to your vision and what is important to you. Then you will be the person you should be on the inside and the person others will want to follow on the outside.
